Welcome to Bass Harbor Maine.
This area is
just south of Southwest Harbor on Mt. Desert Island and within Acadia.
Here we are touring the Bass Harbor Light. It is
one of the most photographed lighthouses on the East Coast. The cliff side lighthouse was constructed in 1858
and is still occupied year round. It guards the entrance
to the Blue Hill Bay. From the lookout area you can see the Gott
Islands, Black Island and Placentia Island. A path to the left of
the parking area provides a trail leading to steps that take you down
onto gigantic granite rocks that jet into the ocean. Bass
Harbor light is open to the public,
so be sure to visit. Once here, you can go inside to see photos and
get more information. |
