Acadia National Park - is one of those places in New England that  attracts millions of vacationers each year to it's one of kind park which displays the forces and beauty of nature.   It's very different from any other park because it's not in just one place, it is all around Mount Desert Island in Bar Harbor, near Southwest Harbor, and on the mainland at the Schoodic Peninsula.  It can be enjoyed from many towns and villages that surround it and are nearby.      In the park there are also several ponds to enjoy.  Two very popular ponds are the Jordan Pond and  Bubble Pond which are great for launching a kayak.  The Jordan Pond is where the historical Jordan Pond House which was built in 1847 is located.  It was purchased by John D. Rockefeller and donated to the park.  A favorite pastime was enjoying popovers on the front lawn.  Another popular place to see in the Acadia mountains is  Sieur DeMonts Spring.  This area is one of the most historically significant places in the park.   It was named after the Frenchman who employed Champlain as the pilot and guide in 1604.  A spring was discovered here and was protected from exploitation.   The founder of Acadia, George Dorr encased this precious spot with a monument and carved in a rock nearby "sweet waters of Acadia".   In the area, you'll also see the  Wild Gardens of Acadia Mixed Woods  and you'll be able to walk around the Bird Thicket, home to the variety of birds that you'll find living in Acadia.
    If you wish to purchase a pass for the Ocean Drive attractions, you'll be able to go Sand Beach which is the most popular beach in Acadia and will be able walk to take the 1.8 mile Seawalk above Sand Beach.  Just beyond the beach visitors stop to experience a powerful force of nature at Thunder Hole.  You may also be interested in the photos of Acadia National Park at Sand Beach and Thunder Hole during Hurricane Bill.
