Welcome to Sorrento, Maine.
This vacationers haven historically known as
a playground for the wealthy sits on Frenchman Bay and resembles the
beauty of another city by the sea with mountain views, that of Sorrento,
Italy, from which it got its name. The town of Sorrento is a sea
town in Hancock County which lies between
Ellsworth and
Gouldsboro Maine. It's shorefront is mildly rugged and picturesque.
At Ocean Avenue, you can launch a small boat from the beach and enjoy
the wharf. The town of Sorrento was created during the
golden age, same as Bar Harbor, when the wealthy took to this beautiful
part of the country to escape the heat and crowds of where they came
from in the summer, some also came in the spring and fall.
The area was considered very romantic and folks played games, had lavish
parties, visited friends across the water in
Bar Harbor and enjoyed yachting -
much like they still do today. |
