Acadia National Park - Bar Harbor Maine - Virtual Visitor Vacation Guide & Acadia Lodging

Acadia National Park - is one of those places in New England that  attracts millions of vacationers each year to it's one of kind park which displays the forces and beauty of nature.   It's very different from any other park because it's not in just one place, it is all around Mount Desert Island in Bar Harbor, near Southwest Harbor, and on the mainland at the Schoodic Peninsula.  It can be enjoyed from many towns and villages that surround it and are nearby. This web site makes a nice guide that will show you around with virtual tours of hundreds of things to see.  You may also go to the home page where you can view a map of the area as well as see recent photos of Acadia taken during Hurricane Bill.  Click on the links below to see Virtual Tours of Acadia.  Return to Map to view more areas.

Click links below to see virtual tours (view above)

In the park there are also several ponds to enjoy.  Two very popular ponds are the Jordan Pond and  Bubble Pond which are great for launching a kayak.  The Jordan Pond is where the historical Jordan Pond House which was built in 1847 is located.  It was purchased by John D. Rockefeller and donated to the park.  A favorite pastime was enjoying popovers on the front lawn.  Another popular place to see in the Acadia mountains is  Sieur DeMonts Spring.  This area is one of the most historically significant places in the park.   It was named after the Frenchman who employed Champlain as the pilot and guide in 1604.  A spring was discovered here and was protected from exploitation.   The founder of Acadia, George Dorr encased this precious spot with a monument and carved in a rock nearby "sweet waters of Acadia".   In the area, you'll also see the  Wild Gardens of Acadia Mixed Woods  and you'll be able to walk around the Bird Thicket, home to the variety of birds that you'll find living in Acadia.
If you wish to purchase a pass for the Ocean Drive attractions, you'll be able to go Sand Beach which is the most popular beach in Acadia and will be able walk to take the 1.8 mile Seawalk above Sand Beach.  Just beyond the beach visitors stop to experience a powerful force of nature at Thunder HoleYou may also be interested in the photos of Acadia National Park at Sand Beach and Thunder Hole during Hurricane Bill.
When you enter Acadia National Park, you can take the scenic Loop Road free of charge which provides several pull overs and informative landmarks.    Loop Road Lookout 1 (virtual tour above)  | Loop Road Lookout 2  | Loop Road Lookout 3.  Continuing along the loop road, you can head up the great Cadillac Mountain, the most well known Mountain of the park which reaches 1,530 feet into the sky.  It is the highest point on the East Coast that sees the earliest sunrise on January 1 each year.  See for yourself, and imagine the exhilaration of being there:  Experience it here:   Cadillac Mountain Views | Cadillac Mountain Summit

The trails were established to take hikers on a scenic adventure and reward -- we will not show you the reward here because you should experience it by doing it.  There are always the mountains to climb too.  Choose from 17 on mount desert island and several at Schoodic.  Other activities while visiting Acadia include scenic biplane tours, whale watching, narrated trolley ridesnature cruises, lighthouse tourskayaking in acadia national park, kayaking in bar harbor,  shopping, wildlife watching at Petit Manan, swimming and boating.   Acadia National Park does not offer any accommodations for lodging in the the park itself, but you can find plenty of wonderful Acadia National Park lodging accommodations near the park and in the quaint coastal villages in this part of Maine.   Come visit anytime, but it's best in the Spring, Summer and Fall.  In the Spring is when you'll find the the most discounted rates for lodging.  You will not be short on things to do either.  Before the summer, it will be less crowded and you'll have easy access to the shops and restaurants, in the fall, you'll be able to enjoy some of the most beautiful foliage and will find lots of sales in the shops.  Whenever you decide to visit, you'll need to find lodging.  Below is a big list of all the most popular lodging options with virtual tours that actually take you inside....fast.  We encourage you to take a look below and view the virtual tours or go to directories to find lodging.  You'll find a map to help you to find the perfect Acadia National Park Vacation Rentals of cottages and Cabins directory, or if you want to stay at one of our Inns or Bed and Breakfast, you'll see inside them quickly.  We also have a directory for Hotels and Motels all with virtual tours inside.  No matter where you choose to stay, you will be near Acadia Maine ad will be able to experience this unique lobster coast of Maine and the natural treasures that await you throughout and in Acadia.
